This is a research-based review, not a claim that we tested every partner network in every country. Mobile performance changes by location, local carrier, building, congestion, phone and time of day. A speed result from one airport cannot predict another traveller’s result across 150 countries.

We inspected the current store, selected country and global products, Help Centre, terms, support details and public review profile. We compared claims across those sources and flagged conflicts rather than choosing the more attractive wording. Prices and terms were checked on 21 July 2026.

How ConnectedYou works

The normal journey has five parts:

1. Choose a plan Pick a country, region or global plan.
2. Pay online Use a supported card or PayPal.
3. Receive two emails An order confirmation and a separate email with the eSIM QR code.
4. Install on Wi-Fi Install the profile on a compatible, unlocked device while connected to Wi-Fi.
5. Activate on arrival Select ConnectedYou for mobile data, enable the eSIM and turn on data roaming.

The data package starts when it connects in the supported destination. Installing before departure should not consume the 30-day allowance. ConnectedYou also offers an installation link for iPhones running iOS 17.4 or later, which avoids scanning the QR code from a second screen.

Plans and pricing

ConnectedYou does not use one flat global price. Costs reflect the destination and allowance. Its United States page gave the clearest full price ladder during our check:

A UK 1GB plan was $3.50, Thailand 1GB was $4.50 and UAE 1GB was $8. The Global 1GB plan cost $10 and covered 133 listed countries. These examples show why travellers should compare local, regional and global options rather than assume one format is always cheaper.

If you will remain in one country, a country plan usually deserves the first look. If your route crosses several supported countries, the convenience of a regional eSIM can be worth a small premium. The global option is most useful for multi-region travel, but 1GB is a light allowance.

Coverage and network quality

ConnectedYou says its service covers more than 150 countries and uses major local network partners, including names such as Vodafone, AT&T and Orange. The Global 1GB package specifically lists 133 countries. Regional packages include Europe, Asia, the Middle East, North America and the Americas.

Coverage is not the same as guaranteed speed. ConnectedYou markets high-speed 5G where available and 4G where 5G is unavailable. The company also says it does not throttle or impose a separate speed limit on the products inspected. Local operators can still manage networks, and congestion, indoor signal or fair-use conditions can affect real performance.

Before buying, ask three questions:

• Is every country on the itinerary listed on the exact product page?
• Which local network will the eSIM use?
• Does the plan permit 5G on your phone in that destination?

Do not rely only on a world map. Product lists are more precise and can reveal exclusions inside a region.

Hotspot and tethering

The current product pages say mobile hotspot is enabled and do not publish a separate hotspot data or speed cap. That is a useful difference for laptop users, couples and families.

All hotspot usage comes from the same allowance. A Windows update, video meeting or cloud sync can consume several gigabytes quickly. A 1GB plan is suitable for emergency laptop access, not a week of normal remote work. Set the laptop connection as metered, pause backups and download large files over trusted Wi-Fi.

Calls, SMS and dual-SIM use

ConnectedYou’s standard travel plans are data-only. They do not provide normal cellular voice calls or SMS. You can use WhatsApp, FaceTime, Signal, Teams or other internet services over mobile data.

Many modern phones let the physical SIM remain active alongside the eSIM. This can preserve your usual number for incoming messages. However, the home carrier may still charge for roaming calls, outgoing texts or data if the wrong line is selected.

For safer dual-SIM use:

• Label the new line “ConnectedYou”.
• Select ConnectedYou for mobile data.
• Turn off mobile-data switching.
• Keep the home line’s data roaming disabled.
• Check the home carrier’s rules for incoming calls and SMS.

Data validity, top-ups and the expiry conflict

The inspected packages are valid for 30 days from activation. ConnectedYou’s terms require packages to be activated within 180 days of purchase.

Top-ups appear in My eSIMs when available. They remain tied to the original destination. A top-up should take effect immediately, although ConnectedYou suggests waiting up to ten minutes after the previous data has fully run out.

The contact page describes real-person support around the clock and reports a 4.8/5 support rating. This is a company-published figure, not the same as an independent platform rating.

When requesting technical help, include the order number, device model, destination, screenshots and error text. Do not send full payment card details. Keep the eSIM installed until support advises otherwise because deleting it does not make it transferable or guarantee that the QR code can be reused.

ConnectedYou customer reviews

ConnectedYou’s Trustpilot business profile showed 4.1 out of 5 from 29 reviews when researched. About 80% were five-star and 14% were one-star. The sample is small, so it should be read as early customer sentiment, not statistical proof of performance.

Positive comments commonly mentioned simple purchase, quick setup and useful travel connectivity. Critical reviews reported activation trouble, slow or missing service and support frustration. Those complaints fit the main risk of any travel eSIM: a digital purchase is convenient when it connects but stressful when troubleshooting begins after arrival.

Install before travel, save the manual activation details and know how to reach support. That preparation is more valuable than assuming a high rating removes all risk.

Refunds and cancellation limits

ConnectedYou links to a Returns and Refund Policy and asks travellers with changed plans to request a refund. Eligibility depends on the policy and whether the service has been installed, activated or used. The Help Centre clearly says unused remaining data does not qualify for a partial refund.

The terms also say an unactivated package becomes unusable after 180 days and is not refundable in that situation. Check the refund policy before purchase if travel dates may change.

ConnectedYou versus leading alternatives

Airalo offers a larger, app-led marketplace across more than 200 locations. Saily combines eSIM data with app-based security features. Holafly focuses strongly on unlimited packages. Nomad is another price-conscious marketplace, while aloSIM includes a phone-number option with purchases in supported offers.

Final verdict

ConnectedYou earns a positive but qualified recommendation. It offers a practical fixed-data product with good entry pricing, broad regional choice, hotspot support and straightforward QR delivery. It is not a full mobile service, and the lack of an app may matter to some travellers.

The biggest editorial concern is inconsistent eSIM expiry wording. The safest approach is to use the six-month legal rule until ConnectedYou confirms otherwise. The biggest practical risk is the same as with other travel eSIMs: local network performance can vary.
